Happy Holiday Wishes To All

  • Dec. 24th, 2009 at 11:55 PM

This isn't the best holiday season for me this year because of my mother and what she's going through with her chronic illness. But through it all, I'd like to wish everyone here, especially the brilliant and creative writers the Happiest of Holidays and a Happy New Year. Thanks to each and everyone of one of you who's help me get away a few hours day with your great work. I do appreciate what you do for me and for others. But I can't go just yet without leaving one of my favorite Christmas songs I long to hear performed each year by the legendary Darlene Love. Hope everybody gets a kick out of as well.

There's only one movie that I'd stop whatever I'm doing to watch. That movie is The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. It's not only the most romantic movie I've seen, but it shows the beauty of Ireland. Wayne plays a broken prize fighter who leaves America and goes to his father's home in Ireland where he meets the beautiful red haired spit fire O'Hara. Many things ensue including Wayne fighting with O'Hara's brother for his father's land, having to deal with the traditional Irish chaperoned courtship with O'Hara, finally marrying O'Hara but she won't consummate their marriage because of her not getting her dowry from her angry brother, O'Hara is then ashamed of her consummation with Wayne without having her dowry that she runs away, Wayne finds her at the train station where he then drags her from that station, almost takes a swith to her (drool) and has her walk allllll the way back home. It finally ends with a big brawl with half of the town including O'Hara's brother, John Wayne style. I suggest this movie whole heartedly.

BRRRRR!

In my 51 years, I can count barely on two hands the times it's actually snowed, I mean really snowed here in Houston and today was the day. It snowed for hours. It was lovely! It stuck too. We were warned about the impending snow this whole week, so I was smart and went grocery shopping for the week last night. Nothing was going to get me out there in that wet, freezing mess. Most folks in Houston are not use to snow and if you're not use to something, you can't do it well. Houston and snow just don't go together. I'm off today till Monday and it's as cold as a witch's left tit and I can't get warm to save my life. I've got pj bottoms, long socks, tee shirt as well as a sweat shirt top and I can still feel the coldness. Getting old, I guess. lol The thermostat is at 75, maybe if I cranked it up to 80 it would do the trick. The snow has stopped, it's melted, so that means tonight when the temp goes down into the 20's, everything will freeze. Whoopie! Oh, and by the way, it's not going to get out of the 30's the whole day tomorrow. Double whoopie.

Do you put up decorations for the holidays? If so, when do the decorations go up and when do you take them down?

I put my tree and decorations up the day after Thanksgiving and take everything down the last day in December. I was raised that way and have continued the tradition.

I've been having the biggest smile on my face all day and it's all because of Donny Osmond. I grew up in the "era" that idolized him. He always seemed positive in every aspect of his life. Between the Jackson 5, the Osmond's had me screaming my heart out watching them on tv . Donny was soooo cute and still is. Just like Michael, I always followed him and his siblings. I don't know what it was about them in particularly, maybe it's because with them being a large family, The Osmond's always exhibited love and respect towards each other, especially to their parents. I'm positive their parents ware the reason they're what they are today. And I respect that. I watched the Donny and Marie Comedy Hour back in the late 70's and later in the 90's their short lived talk show. I was there. I rocked with Donny in the 90's when he had a couple of hits out too. I am a true fan. So when I heard he was going to be on Dancing With The Stars, I was there each week, clapping my hands and screaming like I was a little girl again. He mastered all his dances (I thought) and I was so proud of him. He really let people out there know you can still look hot, still have that toothy smile, be in fine, fine form and keep up with the young'un even though you're 51 years old. YOU GO DONNY! I LOVE YOU!

Here is my most favorite clip. If you know Donny, you know that this is one of the songs he had a hit with. His enjoyment of the dance made me smile and he looked so damn good.

Are you planning to host Thanksgiving at your place or will you travel to see family and/or friends? Do you prefer a traditional menu or something entirely different?

The song would be PROUD, by Heather Small.  It reminds me of one of my most favorite shows Queer As Folk, plus it gives me a warm feeling inside.

I'm Baaaack

I'm back.  Had my tortuous mammogram, but I got through it. This technician was very nice and gentle. Being compassionate towards a patient who's going through this is a plus, I spoke with her supervisor and told her how good she was. Then it's off to the CT scan.  Shoot, I thought all they were gonna do was lay me out on a table and pass a wand over by stomach, I was wrong.  After I got in my gown, this nurse brought me 2 tall barium banana flavored crap and told me to drink it.  I was pissed, what's going on here?  I was mad, gagging with every sip I took and told the nurse, I can only drink 1, gagging all the while.  She said the more I drink, the better the results, so i drank only half of the other.  Screw that, I can be really stubborn when it comes to doing something I don't want to do. They finally called my name and took me to a room and stuck an IV in my hand.  IV!!!  What the hell is going on here. She explained  they were going to also inject another solution in my vein during the scan.  WHAT?!!  What happened to just laying there and having a wand passed over you?    I was brave, I'm use to getting IV's in my arm or where ever.  I was in the hospital a few years back for about 3 months.  Now to the big tube, big tube?   Number 1, how in the hell am I gonna get my fat ass in there  and what about that 3 foot wide "bed" you lay on, won't I fall off?   I did it, I didn't fall, I laid down, hands over my head and they proceeded in moving me inside and having me hold my breath and releasing it.  They did that for a few minutes, now it's injection time.  You know when a nurse tells you when they inject you that you "might" feel the solution going in and it "may" burn and it's a "good chance" after the burning sensation leaves,  you'll "feel" a coolness that may numb your hand and arm and possibly give you a feeling you might urinate on yourself.  Believe it, it's all true and it's an unpleasant feeling, but you go on.   It's finally over and now it's time to get my fat ass up, mind you with a needle stuck in my hand on a 3 foot wide bed.  The tiny petite 85 lb. technician tried to help, what a laugh, then she had a bright idea to bring in a chair so I could hoist "all of this" lusciousness up.  Got up dizzy, sat for about 5 minutes.  The nurse that place the IV needle in my hand took it out, wrapped my hand, told me what to do when I got home, like drink plenty of water and how my bowels (gag) will appear.  Geez.  I got dressed, drove home and on my way back had to find a place to heave some of that crap out I drank, got me some chicken wings (lol) and came home.  What a day!  I'm going to stay positive on the outcome of both procedures, there's nothing I can do but try to get it fixed if it needs to be fixed.  Thank God for insurance.    BTW, my stomach's churning like a big pot of soup up on high heat.  Whoopie!

Postive Thoughts For Tomorrow

  • Oct. 22nd, 2009 at 8:07 PM

Well I'm going in on tomorrow for another mammogram.  The first one I got a year ago showed an abnormality and I had to get a biopsy.  The biopsy went well, they suck out what ever was wrong and the results came back just fine.  Btw, the biopsy, the deadening on the area, then the vacuum suction, that was o.k., I could take that, but the 30 minute pressure afterwards to stop the bleeding was horrible.  30 minutes!!!!  Now tomorrow another mammogram.  After the torture of the plexi glassed vice shows everything's ok, I can go on.  But if they find something, I guess it's scan time.  OW!  When I had my well woman check up 2 weeks ago, I complained to the dr.  of the pain I've been having on that same breast, it seems to resonate  right under my arm.  It's an off and on thing, but it's still there.  I pray it's just hormonal problems with me being 51 and in menopause, but who knows.  Whatever happens, happens and I'll do what I need to do.  Now that's my 11:30 apt., my next is at 1:30 and that's a c-scan on my stomach, the dr. was concerned about how hard it is.  I never thought about it and just accepted it, don't ask me why.  What a life.   I've really got to be careful because my sister Lougene, died of lung, breast and colon cancer along with MS.  That was 5 years ago, I really miss her.    Next, I really looking forward to a colonostomy (sp).   Goodie.

Writer's Block: Who's your BFF?

  • Oct. 4th, 2009 at 1:26 PM

Who is your oldest friend (i.e., the friend you have known the longest)? How often do you see or talk to each other? Do your close friends tend to stay the same year after year or change over time?

View 1419 Answers

The friend I've known the longest would be Patricia E.  I've known her since elementary school.  Patricia also lived across the street from me for close to 20 years.  She's like a sister to myself and my siblings.  Since her Mom passed away a few years back, any type of celebration we have as a family, she's invited, because she's part of the family. We are very close and see each other at least 2 times a month, we email each other and talk on the phone also.  We've became really close friend for the last 20 or so years and have been there  for each other through thick and thin.   So, I would say it has been over 40 years since I've called Patricia friend.

What is the longest uninterrupted period of time you've ever watched TV? Were you alone or with a friend/partner? Do you tend to watch more TV when you're happy, depressed, or simply bored?

I'm a court show freak.  And I'm ashamed to say that  when I'm off on a weekday, I watch the court shows from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Damn, that's 6 hours.  uh oh.   So I have to say 6 hrs.  I watch it for pure entertainment, not because I'm bored or depressed, it just entertains me.

Given the choice, would you start this day over again? How about this month or this year?

What I know now, it'll probably be this whole year.  Money matters would've gone smoother and I would not have worried about things unnecessarily as I often do.

Season and brown up pieces of chicken breast add a can and a half of fat free cream of chicken soup, stir in whole wheat spiral noodles and a cup of chopped broccoli, cover and simmer for 20 minutes on a low heat.  That's good stuff.

You mean I rushed home from grocery shopping to see the DIVA'S on VH1?  Man...it blew big time.  Paula, Paula, Paula.  I'm not going to say anything bad about you because so many people put you down already,.  but uh_no.  NO!!!!!!!!  Now  I love me some Kelly, Leona, Adele and Jordin, but why in the heck didn't they sing songs I'm familiar with.  It wasted my time. It was hard for me to understand what Adele and Leona  were saying, so their conversation went over my head.    Why was Miley there?  And where was Pink?  Speaking of Pink, they had her Behind the Music (I think that's what it's called) before the Diva's came on.  Now that girl can SING!  She blew me away on the VMA's, that trapeze act had me mesmerized.  She stole the show, imho.  .
